Hello and welcome to my anti-pest blog. Hi, my name is Corrie. I live in an old home in the middle of nowhere. Due to the gaps in my home and the fact that we are virtually surrounded by nature, all kinds of pests have gotten into my home over the years. In addition to the usual suspects such as cockroaches, ants, termites and mice, we have also seen feral bees and small marsupials get into our home. Through trial and error and the occasional help of a professional pest removal specialist, we have learned a wealth of information about pest removal. Explore this blog and learn through my experiences. I think you will enjoy reading, but most of all, you will enjoy your pest-free house.

Ant Attack: How to Combat Ants in Your Home

Ants in your home can be a real nuisance. If your home is being attacked by ants, it is important that you take action. Below are some top tips to help you beat an ant infestation in your home.

Locate and Seal the Entry Points

The first thing you should do is carry out an inspection of your home in order to locate the point at which the ants are entering the property. You should first check obvious entry points such as holes or cracks in the areas surrounding doors and windows. You should also check any screens attached to your doors and windows for any holes or tears. Finally, you should check your basement and patio as these are also potential points of entry. Once you have located the entry point you should seal it using caulk to prevent any more ants from entering your property.

Attack the Nest

Once you have prevented any more ants from entering your home, the next step is to locate and attack any nest which the ants have built in your home. It is likely the nest will be close to the point of entry in a sheltered area of your home, such as under your eaves or under your porch. If you cannot locate the nest within your property, you should check the outside of your home as the nest could be on the exterior of your property. In order to kill the ants within you home, you should use poison gel baits or boric acid, both of which are available from home and garden suppliers. These substances will not kill ants straight away; instead they will allow the ant to carry the poison back to its nest. It is likely other ants will also consume the poison once it has been deposited in the nest.

Clean Your Kitchen

Unclean kitchen surfaces are a great source of food for ant colonies. You should ensure that you sweep and mop your kitchen floor, wipe up any spillages and take out your trash on a regular basis. This will help to prevent future infestations of ants.

Contact a Pest Control Service

If after carrying out the actions outlined above, you are still having problems with ants in your home, you should contact a professional pest control service. They will be able to inspect your property and carry out the necessary work to remove ants from your home.
