In addition to the usual suspects such as cockroaches, ants, termites and mice, we have also seen feral bees and small marsupials get into our home. Through trial and error and the occasional help of a professional pest removal specialist, we have learned a wealth of information about pest removal. Pest Management – Tips To Prevent a Recurrent Roach Infestation

Roach infestations are one of the most common reasons why homeowners will enlist professional pest management. These critters can be challenging to get rid of on your own, and they need specialised intervention to eradicate them entirely from your home. Even once your residence has been fumigated, your property won't be immune to these insects. If you are not taking the appropriate preventative measures, there is a high likelihood of your home becoming re-infested. To prevent this, here are some tips to employ post-fumigation so that your house is not vulnerable to becoming overrun by roaches again.

Tip 1: Embark on extensive and thorough sealing of the premises

Cockroaches do not spontaneously appear inside your home. These insects have to make their way in from the outdoors and then gradually establish their nests inside your property. Some people think that as long as they keep windows and doors closed, their home will be safe; however, this is not correct. The cockroach body is capable of flattening itself, which makes it flexible enough to squeeze through the smallest crevices and gaps in your walls, door frames, window frames and so on. Therefore, a critical preventative measure would be ensuring your house is thoroughly inspected for potential access points and having these breaches sealed immediately after fumigation.

Tip 2:  Remedy all plumbing leaks

Cockroaches are known for their foraging abilities. But a little-known fact about these pests is that they can go for weeks without ingesting any food! This ability to stay undernourished for prolonged periods is what makes a roach infestation so alarming, as they can stay undercover for a long stretch of time without your knowledge and then seemingly appear out of nowhere! So how do they stay alive during this period? Although roaches may not need food on a daily basis, they do need to stay hydrated. Therefore, as long as your home has undetected leaks, chances are a few roaches on the premises could quickly become a full-blown infestation. Since ensuring all water sources are eliminated is critical after fumigation, you should also hire a plumber to determine if any leaks would need securing too!

Tip 3: Limit food consumption to a specific location

As aforementioned, cockroaches are highly skilled foragers and are capable of tracking crumbs in the most unlikely of places. Therefore, if you have a habit of eating food in different areas of your home, it makes it easier for a roach infestation to spread. Instead, it is advisable to limit food consumption to a specific location. Having a designated dining area makes it easy to thoroughly clean up after eating and not leave any food behind for roaches to thrive on.
